Meet Yum Yum and Friar Tuck.

We recently received these two black angus cows to raise and feed off our grass fields.

One day I noticed that the cows were not in their allotted field.  I went out to investigate and found several parts of the fencing ripped out or torn down by the livestock.  The barrier had been put in place to keep the cattle safe from getting into neighboring fields or out onto the highway.  Of course, the cows found greener pastures.

The next day I located the problem and fixed it.  Then I packed up my tools and supplies and drove our gator along the entire perimeter of the field fixing and repairing portions of the fence.  This took me most of the day and the cows joyful short-lived escapade outside their boundaries had come to an end.

Later I sat on the back porch admiring my work as I watched the cattle test the fence.  When I saw a steer touch the wire with his nose and then jump back, I knew that the black hairy beasts would have a new respect for the boundaries put in place to keep them safe.

This got me thinking about my own boundaries in life.  How often do I maintain my fences to keep me safe from bad things of this world?

One of my favorite scriptures is Ephesians 6: 10-18.  In verse 13 it says, “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.  NKJV”

Armor is not exactly a hot wire fence, but it certainly is my spiritual protection that is meant to keep me safe.  If there is a breach in my armor, then my heart is susceptible to Satan’s lies and the traps that he lays out for me.

Have you ever felt like you needed a full body armor to tackle some of the hard stuff you go through in life?  I certainly do.

So daily I Gird my Waist With TRUTH, Jesus called Satan the “father of lies.”

I put on the Breastplate of RIGHTEOUSNESS, for my heart is susceptible to the evil in this world.

I shod my feet with the Gospel of PEACE, Satan scatters traps for me, but I am saved by God’s grace.

I take up the Shield of FAITH, Satan likes to throw doubt my way.

I put on the Helmet of SALVATION, those who reject God’s plan of salvation battle Satan unprotected and suffer.

The Sword of the Spirit is the WORD OF GOD.  I am thankful that my mom made me memorize verses.  With God’s word I can counter Satan; it is sharper than any double-edged sword.

Finally, never underestimate the power of PRAYER.

Keep your fences mended by daily putting on the armor of God.  Don’t go into battle against Satan unprotected.

May God bless you and keep you safe.
