TEN seconds until the crystal ball in Time Square, New York finishes its descent to celebrate the beginning of the new year.

NINE seconds, the musicians are cued to play Auld Lang Syne bidding farewell to 2023.

EIGHT seconds to ponder what your new years resolution is going to be.

SEVEN seconds to remember what your last year’s resolution was and why you didn’t keep it.

SIX seconds to get a drink and raise for a toast bringing in the new year.

FIVE seconds to find your lover and get ready for that first kiss of 2024.

FOUR seconds left and you’re feeling anxious because you don’t know what the new year will bring.

THREE seconds till the firework display begins to light up the sky.

TWO seconds and you’re wondering why you stayed up till midnight abusing your body to ring in the new year.

ONE second and with all the gusto and excitement you yell….. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

“Celebrate endings for they precede new beginnings.” – Jonathan Lockwood Huie

How is it that I’m already writing my blog for the new year 2024.  Did 2023 really happen?  It seems unfair that 2023 didn’t have a chance to show itself but in reality, it was packed with a lot.  Is it really time to get a new calendar?

I suppose when the New Year begins some folks will say goodbye to an old habit and replace it with a new behavior.  Some will experience apprehension when stepping into the new year, while others feel excited ready to start their journey into the unknown future.

“You can get excited about the future.  The past won’t mind.” – Hillary DePiano

New Years is another favorite holiday for me.  It’s a time of reflecting on what I did the past year and what the new year will hold for me.   Sure, I have some apprehension, but it comes with a buildup of excitement waiting for my new adventure to begin that will be a once in a lifetime experience that always tops the last one.

It’s like a blank canvas waiting for the artist to apply the first stroke of color.  As the new year progresses the painting comes together creating a beautiful masterpiece to be cherish at the end of the year.

“There are far better things ahead than any we leave behind.” – C.S. Lewis

So don’t fear the new year, take hold of it, and tell it that you have cinched up your seatbelt and that you are ready for an out of this world experience.  At the end of the year, you’ll look back and wonder why you didn’t invest in shoulder straps too.

I pray that the new year brings you joy to fill the empty spots, that you would meet new acquaintances whether at home or from around the world, and that there will be new adventures to remind you that there is so much more in life to live for.

“The purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.” — Eleanor Roosevelt
